It really hacks me off when I try to phone a free 0800 number on my mobile phone only to be told that “your mobile operator will charge for this call”. I used to use a service from Voipfone that allowed me to bypass the charge by dialing a landline number they provided that then allowed you to type in the 0800 number which was actually really handy!
Then 08 Wizard came along!
08 Wizard is an app that’s available for iPhone, Android and Windows phones that basically uses a central database to find the local number (01,02) that’s associated with the 0800 number. You literally just type the 0800 number into the dialer and the app will go away and find the alternative number. Very intuitive and easy to use.
The app costs 69p on iTunes but to be honest I think you could make this back in a couple of calls. It’s probably not an app you would use every day but it does have a very small file size (0.4 MB) so it can easily sit on your phone ready for those times when it will come in handy
