Many people design websites without any thought for the user experience. If a site is badly designed for the user then you can be sure this is driving traffic away from your business and losing you money. Don’t Make Me Think by Steve Krug was recommended to me by several people on various forums I visit etc so I decided to buy it and post my review on here.
At only 216 pages long it’s very easy to read the book in one sitting. This may seem like a lot to do all at once but there is a vast array of screendumps etc for many different sites which are used to emphasise Steve’s points which help to break up the book and actually make it quite a postive read.

The premise of the book is literally embodied in the title. People dont like hard choices when visiting a site, they dont want to have to think! Websites need to be easy to use and easy to navigate according to Steve. He talks about site and page layout, a bit about navigation design and really tries to get people to grasp usability testing as an important part of getting the site working properly. He also has some very interesting views on the psychology of a typical web user.
Overall the book is a good introduction to web usability, it’s one of these books that you should keep and refer to each time you undertake a new project so that there is some focus on the usability aspect.
